Men are known to be proud about a lot of things. Career achievements, family life and wealth are some of the sources of pride for men. But if there’s one thing that men around the world take very seriously, it’s their performance in the bedroom. Men are very much sensitive regarding their sex life. Most of them want to be remembered as great lovers who can satisfy their partners anytime of the day. The reality of life, however, is that there are certain conditions that can prevent men from pleasing their partners. Like male impotence.
What is Male Impotence?
Male impotence is simply the inability of men to have and maintain an erection during lovemaking. It could also pertain to having brief erections, or erections that are not enough to satisfy a woman in bed. For men, male impotence is the worst nightmare. It is akin to losing their manhood. A penis that won’t get hard during intercourse is a source of shame for most men.
What Causes It?
There are several possible causes of erectile dysfunction. Age is perhaps the number one risk factor of male impotence. According to a study published by the Journal of Urology, men who are in their 60s are four times likely to suffer from impotence compared to those who are in their 40s. Men who are also tired and stressed from work are potential candidates to impotence. Guys who lead an unhealthy lifestyle, eat junk foods and maintain a less healthy diet, consume a lot of alcoholic drinks and do not exercise are all likely to have difficulties having and sustaining an erection.
Male impotence is directly related to blood flow to the penis. When there is a limited amount of blood that goes to the male reproductive organ, the penis fails to sustain an erection. This explains why doctors usually recommend that men control their blood pressure and cholesterol levels and avoid smoking and alcohol to avoid being in an embarrassing situation wherein their penis could not maintain an erection.
Best Treatments for Male Impotence
There are also two medications that are useful in treating impotence- Cialis and Viagra. Cialis is also called tadalafil. It is a type of drug referred to as phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor. It relaxes the muscles of the body and helps increase the flow of blood to certain parts, including the penis. This explains why Cialis is also used for the treatment of enlarged prostate and pulmonary arterial hypertension, among others. It is usually taken 30 minutes before a sexual intercourse. However, the drug is not to be taken more than once a day.
Viagra is the other drug used for treatment of male impotence. Like Cialis, it is a PDE inhibitor. It treats male impotence by boosting the flow of blood to the penis during sexual stimulation. The increased flow of blood results to sustained erection. It is also used for treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension by relaxing the blood vessels and along blood to flow easily.
Both Cialis and Viagra have side effects like headache, heartburn, diarrhea, numbness, muscle ache and changes in color vision. Men who want to try these medications should seek medical clearance first before buying them.
