Latisse is a prescription treatment for the condition known as hypotrichosis, which causes abnormal hair patterns in people, usually in the form of thinning or gradual hair loss. When a person has hypotrichosis, the hair is usually normal up to a point when it starts to fall out and is replaced by sparse, abnormal hair growth. Latisse is used to promote the gradual regrowth of the eyelashes.
Before using Latisse, make sure that entire face is clean. Remove any makeup or contact lenses if any had been used before application. Place one drop of the LATISSE solution onto the disposable applicator that comes with the package. Apply Latisse every night directly to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes using the applicators that come with the package. Be sure to remove any solution beyond the eyelid margin. Dispose of the applicator after using on one eye and use a new sterile applicator for the other.
Latisse Cost Information
One Latisse kit, which contains one bottle and 30 pairs of applicators, typically costs around $120, although this price may vary depending on the pharmacy, location, or online drug store selling it.

Short-Term Side Effects
Latisse has been known to cause eyelid pigmentation, and this pigmentation may be expected to continue or even increase the long Latisse is being used. This darkening of the periorbital tissues, however, is also known to be reversible once use of Latisse has been stopped. People suffering from any active introcular inflammation are advised to use Latisse with caution as it cause an increase in the inflammation.
Other reported side effects include eye pruritus, conjunctival hyperemia, ocular irritation, dry eye symptoms, and erythema of the eyelid, although these conditions were reported in less than 4% of the people who used it.
Long-Term Side Effects
There have been numerous reports of increased iris pigmentation during the time that Latisse was being applied, and this pigmentation has been known to be permanent. This pigmentation is caused by an increase in melanin content in the melanocytes. This iris color change, however, may not be noticeable for several months to years. Repeated contact of the solution on any skin surface may also promote hair growth in that area, which is why care should be exercised to make sure the Latisse is only applied to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes.
Drug Interactions
There are a few treatments known to have an interaction with Latisse, including latanoprost ophthalmic, Lumigan (bimatoprost ophthalmic), Rescula (unoprostone ophthalmic), Travatan (travoprost ophthalmic), Travatan Z (travoprost ophthalmic), travoprost ophthalmic, unoprostone ophthalmic, and Xalatan (latanoprost ophthalmic)
How It Works
Latisse works by stimulating the growth phase of the eyelash hair cycle. By increasing the length of the growth phase, eyelashes are allowed to grow longer and in much greater numbers.
Generic Alternatives
There are a few known generic alternatives to Latisse, the most popular being Careprost, which has the same active ingredient (bimatoprost opthalmic solution 0.03%) as Latisse, although to date, Latisse is the only known FDA-approved treatment for eyelash-related hypotrichosis.
