Lamisil is an anti-fungal medication for treatment of infections caused by fungi. Fungal infections of the skin like Athlete’s foot, fungal infection of the groin, ringworm, Pityriasis versicolor and yeast infections like Candida albicans are some of the conditions that it can cure. Lamisil is manufactured and marketed by Novartis. Lamisil comes in cream and tablet forms.

Short-Term Side Effects
Upon first use of Lamisil, patients may experience symptoms like headache, diarrhea, rashes, heartburn or indigestion, itching, pain in the abdomen, and hives. These side effects often manifest as the body adjusts to the medication. But there is a good chance that these symptoms will go away several days later.
Long-Term Side Effects
The chronic use of Lamisil may cause users to suffer from long term side effects like changes in vision and skin rashes. How It Works
Lamisil contains terbinafine hydrochloride which has antifungal properties. It kills the fungi and yeast by obstructing the cell membranes. The substance particularly stops the production of ergosterol, a substance that is essential in the reproduction of fungal cell membranes. Terbinafine also causes holes in the cell membranes that kill the fungi and clears up the infection.
Interactions
Before agreeing to use Lamisil, patients must tell their doctors about any drugs they are using. Certain medications like Lopressor, Betapace, Trandate, Abilify, Prolixin, Haldol, Mellaril and Risperdal are known to interact with Lamisil and prevent it from becoming fully effective. The same goes for Cymbalta, Lexapro, Savella, Zoloft, Effexor, Fetzima and Pristig. These medications can also increase the risks of side effects.
Generic Alternatives
If Lamisil is not appropriate for the use of a patient, a physician may prescribe generic alternatives such as amorolfine, a morpholine antifungal drug.
