Xalatan Opth Drops is prescribed to those with open angle glaucoma as well as those with high eye pressure or ocular hypertension. It is made by Pfizer, Inc. Xalatan is part of a group of drugs referred to as prostaglandins that lower eye pressure by decreasing the levels of fluid produced in the eye, or facilitating fluid drainage out of the eye. Xalatan opth drops are used once a day, usually in the evening.
Before using the eye drops, the user should wash his or her hands first. Users should also remove their contact lenses before using this medication, and avoid putting it back at least 15 minutes after applying the medication. Glaucoma is a condition characterized by high fluid pressure in the eye, although there are cases when people with this condition have normal eye pressure. It is caused by the build-up of fluid that flows through the eye. The build-up happens because the body is unable to drain the fluid out of the eye. As the fluid pressure in the eye rises, it can damage the back of the eye that can potentially lead to gradual loss of sight. There are no symptoms of glaucoma, which when leftuntreated can lead to more serious health problems like blindness.
